1. The subject of religion has become a taboo issue throughout America that is constantly debated. This occurrence could be because religion, or lack thereof, is based on belief. Religion is something that gives people the right to read and interpret their findings on a personal level. Also, faith is commonly something that is shared among family members. Religious beliefs can be passed down from generation to generation deepening the roots of faith in any given family. When someone has grown up learning about a certain aspect of faith, they can become very passionate about those beliefs.

2. Science is the first subject that comes to mind when discussing religion in relation to education. As discussed in the video clip, evolution is a highly debated topic due to its views which contradict Christian beliefs. Discussing holidays could also bring up religious debate. It seems that more often than not, people are becoming more sensitive to holiday titles. As a future teacher of younger children, I would need to take into account how my students will interpret my lessons to their parents. I completely respect others beliefs, and would hope that they would respect my actions as a teacher as well.

3. Learning about religion aids in lessons pertaining to history. Just as Sarah stated in her presentation, educators are permitted to teach about religion, but cannot teach religion. The subject of religion can prove to be a beneficial aid in the classroom as long as students, parents, and educators have an open mind about the subject. On a personal level, my religion is a very important part of my life; however, it is not my place to impose my views on someone else, nor is the classroom the appropriate environment to discuss said beliefs. Knowing boundaries is the key part of using such a taboo topic in class.

1. This subject is such a hot issue because it is talked about so much. People have so many different beliefs in America, that there are two well debated sides and no way of telling who is really right. Religion gives people their beliefs and values so each person thinks that their religion is better than the next. Some people believe that America was founded on Christianity so they think that it is alright to talk about God in school and others say no because not everyone believes that and we do not want to influence our children into believing something that is not right for them.
2. Science is a big issue when it comes to religious debates because a lot of scientific topics counter the beliefs in many religions. People get into a big religious issue on whether or not to teach evolution because that means that God did not create man but that we evolved from apes and this offends some people. Also history is a bid issue because in order to teach accurately about different cultures you need to teach about their religious beliefs. The key word in this sentence is "about". You are not trying to promote a religion, just trying to show that people believe different things and we need to have an understanding for this.
3. I think that there are more advantages than disadvantages. First, you are teaching children to be understanding when it comes to other people’s beliefs. This will help them to be more tolerant in the future. I think that the reason people object to other peoples' religious beliefs is because they do not understand it and it scares them. People are afraid of what they do not understand and if they understand it they will learn to be tolerant. One disadvantage is that if you teach about a religion a child may hear about it and think that it is "cooler" than the religion that they have now so they may tell their parents that they want to become that religion which would obviously upset a parent very much.

1. I think religion is debated about so much because some people believe it should be taught and other people believe it should be seperate from schools. Also, some people think that the idea of evolution should be left out. I think it causes a lot of debate because parents do not want their childrens' views, beliefs and religion altered in any way because of what is taught in schools.
2. I think science is the first area of the curriculum where issues with religion could get involved. As stated in the video, evolution is something that is often discussed in science class. I also think that History is another part of the curriculum where discussions of different religions could be a problem.
3. I think the advantages are that you are able to teach children that there are many other beliefs besides just yours. I think it is important for kids to realize that not everyone feels the same way. I think it is also great to learn about with history. It is important to learn about the different religions in history class. There is a difference, though, between, teaching religion and teaching ABOUT religion. I think some disadvantages could be that kids at young ages may see one religious group as superior. Also, I think teachers may have to worry about kids altering their views because of something that was said in class.

1. Some reasons that religion is such a hotly debated topic in American Education are the fact that there are so many belief systems and faiths in America, the quickness to be offended, the separation of church and state outlined in the Constitution, and the fact that there is to be no national religion. I feel that religion, like politics, is a subject that a lot of people avoid talking about. It seems like people are very opinionated when they do talk about religion, which makes it a highly debated topic.
2. According to the video, teaching science will most likely encounter problems with religious issues due to the fact that evolution is commonly taught in science class. The faith and beliefs of many conflict with the evolution lessons taught in schools, so there is a great debate about teaching evolution in schools.
3. An advantage of including religion in our schools is teaching ABOUT religion. Teaching about religion helps students gain a better understanding of art, history, music, and literature. Being taught about religion helps students understand the diversity in this country and leads to multicultural education. I do not find any disadvantages when teaching ABOUT religion other than the fact that teachers may have a bias. It is important that when teachers teach about religion that they keep their opinions neutral and do not favor one religion.

1. Religion is based on a belief system. Of course, whatever you believe will be your passion and conviction. The bottom line is that individuals need to learn tolerance and respect for others beliefs. Regardless if their beliefs coincide with mine, I will still respect their right to believe what they wish. Somewhere along the way, we have started debating the teaching of religion, what is right and wrong in the classroom and forgot about teaching tolerance.

2. Teaching history and anything that has a historical premise can be argued depending on a religious background. Many of the world’s wars were fought based on a strong belief in something or someone more powerful than us. Society needs something to believe in, what that something is will be the choice of the individual. As an American society we do have the right to change out mind at any time.

3. Discussing religion in the classroom allows for student’s to bring new perspectives to the classroom. This allows for different class discussion, allows to rid the class of misconceptions that may go along with the religion being taught, and allows for the students to be educated about others cultures and beliefs so that a respect for others can be established. I sincerely believe that the respect and tolerance has been lost unilaterally for quite some time, teaching it in the classroom would be a great beginning. The only disadvantage that I can foresee would be dealing with the parents that are not accepting of other religions, not that the teacher would force other religions upon their children, but introduce them.

1.) Reglion is a very sensitive subject because their are so many different relgions and they are all based on different things. Reglion is a hot topic because people interpret their world based onthe teaching of their relgion.
2.) There are two areas where religion could become a issuein the classroom nad that is in science ehnr the topic of eolution is brought up and in the celebration of holiday parties. One way to solve the problem in science is to touch on all the theories of how the earth came to be what it is today and then let the students decide which ones they want to beleive. When it coem to class parties youcould have a winter celebration, or a fall harvest and even a spring spectacular. A teacher needs to be really creful when celebrating holidays.
3.) Relgion should not be imposed on a teacher's students, btu a teahcer has all the rights in the world to teach about relgion. If a teacher tries to teach relgion I feel that it is a waste of classroom time that could be sent on the other core subjects

1. What are some reasons that religion is such a hotly debated topic in American Education? Religion is a hotly debated topic in american education because everyone has the right to believe what they want. If you teach a religion in school you are basically forcing a person to believe what you tell them. i believe it should be kept out of the classroom because you cannot help but hurt someones feelings when you teach it.

2. What areas of the curriculum are most likely to encounter problems with religious issues? Definitly science as we have seen in the video such as evolutionism, but also social studies when it comes to teaching about religions. In social studies you are supposed to teach children about religions that other people of the world have so that students become aware. It's not like you are teaching the student to believe in it, but some parents want their student to be ignorant of the religion all together.

3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of including religion in our schools? If you are teaching about religion and not actually teaching to believe in it awareness is a big advantage. today's society is becoming more and more politically correct. and with this awareness you get from learning about others religions you will know what not to say or do so that you do not offend them. a disadvantage of this could be a teacher spending a month on a specific religion and only a day on another.
